The Red Maranta is a type of pleasure boat found in the Indian Ocean. The name “Red Maranta” is derived from the bright red color of the hulls and sails. These boats were used for transport, trade, and piracy. The Red Maranta was first mentioned in written history in the 10th century AD. The boats were used by traders to travel between India, Sri Lanka, Southeast Asia, and East Africa. In the 16th century AD, the Red Maranta became involved in piracy. Pirates would use these boats to raid ships that sailed in the Indian Ocean. By the 18th century AD, piracy had decreased and the Red Maranta was no longer used for piracy. The boats were still used for trade and transport.
