It was first described by Johann Christian Friedrich Link in 179 The Warscewiczii Philodendron is thought to be less than 100 years old, making it one of the youngest plants to be classified as an endangered species. In 2004, the Warscewiczii Philodendron was listed as an endangered species by the US Fish and Wildlife Service. The main threat to the Warscewiczii Philodendron is habitat destruction caused by logging and development. There are also concerns about the risk of extinction from introduced pests and diseases. A number of conservation programmes have been established in order to protect the plant, including a protected area in North Carolina.
